Tungsten disulphide or WS2 as it is called; is a synthetic powder that is often converted into and used as a lubricant. Before Spray Blasting:

  • Enclose the coating area with plastic sheets. This helps to keep the spray dust from spreading outside the work area.
  • Keep aside cloths or tissues that will be used during the coating process.
  • Have necessary oils or sprays to clean and degrease the part that is going to be sprayed.

Spray Blasting Method:

  • Clean the required and remove any traces of grease from it. The less amounts of other substances on the part, the easier it will be to apply the coating.
  • First, the part needs to be sand blasted. Use 5 micron Alumina powder during this part of the method. A light spray will do.
  • Once the powder has settled, clean the part thoroughly, removing any traces of the Alumina powder.
  • Using cold pneumatic air, sand blast the part with the WS2 powder. Spray-coat the part till its color changes to silver grey.
  • Using a cloth or a tissue, wipe off any extra traces of the powder.
