Dry Film & Solid Film Lubricants Military and For Defense Equipment

The military is one of the largest users of dry film lubricants. Military field testing continues to be one of the main reasons for advancements in dry film lubricant materials and applications.

Microsurface Corporation has increased its capabilities to offer coating options in line with these demanding applications and military specifications.

Lubricant Types and Features

We can provide solution-driven lubricants for defense and security applications. Our lubricants are versatile in terms of applications, including use in naval, infantry and air force. They can be applied to small complex prototypes, as well as large devices and equipment.

Micro Surface Corporation lubricants are designed to support devices and equipment in terms of problems such as corrosion, lubricity, wear and tear, etc.

  • MIL-PRF-46010: This is perhaps the most popular product chosen by the US military. It is a paint-like coating, which utilizes a combination of resins, binders, lubricants, and a curing process. The result is a thick coating, which provides the advantages of lubricity, corrosion resistance, reduced friction, and increased wear life.
  • Tungsten Disulfide: The biggest advantage of WS2 is that it is compatible with a wide temperature range. The range in atmospheric pressures ranges from -450 oF to over 1200 oF. In vacuum environments, the temperature range is between -305 oF and 2400 oF. Also, WS2 does not require any resins or binders. It doesn’t require any curing time, and the coating process is performed at room temperature. Tungsten Disulfide Coating is virtually non-outgassing in vacuum environments.
  • Molybdenum Disulfide: MoS2 is the perfect lubricant for substrates made from ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as plastics and solids. It has chemical stability, as it is inert, non-toxic, and corrosion-resistant. It is non-magnetic and has excellent semiconductor properties. It performs best when used in dry and vacuum environments.

All the above-mentioned lubricants adhere to the regulations of Military Specifications such as: DOD-L-85645 and MIL-PRF-46010 and more.
