When it comes to industrial coatings, nothing compares to Tungsten Disulfide. Also known as WS2, tungsten disulfide is a thin, dry film lubricant coating, and is known to be one of the most lubricious materials in the world.

When it comes to industrial coatings, nothing compares to Tungsten Disulfide. Also known as WS2, tungsten disulfide is a thin, dry film lubricant coating, and is known to be one of the most lubricious materials in the world.

Why is Tungsten Disulfide the Best Choice for Industrial Lubricating Coatings?

The main aspect that sets WS2 apart from other coatings is its coefficient of friction. In dynamic applications, the coefficient is rated at 0.07, and in static applications, the coefficient can be as low as 0.03. The reason for this is the lubricant’s overall structure.

The coating consists of a hollow sphere that is layered with hexagonal crystals. These crystal clusters are formed by networks with S-W-S molecules. The molecule layers are linked to a binding force called Van de Walls Force, which sets up tungsten disulfide’s low friction factor.

What are the Solution Driven Features of Tungsten Disulfide?

Tungsten disulfide is known for its numerous beneficial features that can be extremely useful in many applications.

  • Immense lubricity
  • High load rating (up to 300,000 PSI)
  • Stability at high temperatures
  • Low drag
  • Non-sticking
  • Long wear life

WS2 is compatible with various liquids ranging from simple grease, to various types of oils, hydraulic fluids, and petrochemicals. It can be applied onto high precision parts, as it does not create any tolerance problems. It is a non-toxic material; hence a component will not suffer from warping or annealing due to the use of WS2. It is a fast acting, dry lubricant; however, it will not peel off or chip away after long periods of time.

What are the Applications of Tungsten Disulfide?

The beneficial features of tungsten disulfide make it the best choice for use in various industrial applications.

  • Coating components for the automotive industry
  • Protects moving parts of industrial manufacturing equipment
  • Various types of ball, linear, and roller bearings
  • Precision gears
  • Marine and aerospace components

These are some of the many reasons why tungsten disulfide is the most sought after lubricant in the world.
